who can attend?

Anyone who is a competent intermediate to advanced skier over 16 years of age

do i have to be a good skier?

You must be able to ski at an intermediate level or higher. For example: participants must be able to ski in a basic parallel at all times on blue runs.

what is the level of certification?

The Austrian Level 1 ski instructor certification (formerly the Austrian Anwäer Schilehrer certification) is universally accepted as a comprehensive and rigorous course. SLAP training equips candidates with the skiing and language skills to succeed.

The Austrian Level 1 is equivalent to the Australian Professional Snowsports Instructors (APSI) Level 1. With this certification you are able to teach skiing to adults and children at a beginner level to intermediate level.

On completion of this level in the SLAP programme, candidates can train for the APSI Level Two (Internationally recognised teaching standard) and are eligible for the second language prerequisite of the International Ski Instructors Alliance (ISIA).

can I work as a ski instructor in Thredbo?

SLAP graduates can start instructing in Thredbo after completing a short induction and joining the Australian Professional Snowsports Instructors Association (APSI).

does SLAP fit in with my uni studies?

Many SLAP graduates study full time at university and work part time as a ski instructor after taking the SLAP course. The SLAP course is offered in the Australian university summer holiday break from January 10 to 31, 2009. Thredbo Snow Sports can offer employment in university holidays or on weekends in return for a minimum level of teaching commitment per season.

can i work in Austria or elsewhere overseas as a ski instructor?

If you have a European Union (EU) passport or right to work in the EU, SLAP can assist you with work experience and work placements in Austrian resorts. SLAP can not assist you with work permits / visas if you do not already hold a EU passport or right to work in other overseas countries.

what if I am a snowboarder?

SLAP specialises in ski instructor certification. Instructor training programs for those interested in becoming a snowboard instructor are offered by Thredbo Snow Sports.
